FASHION CINEMAGRAPHS BY KEVIN BURG AND JAMIE BECK

A couple of years ago while covering New York Fashion Week throughFacesofNYFW.com, I stumbled upon the work of Visual Graphics Artist Kevin Burg and photographer Jamie Beck. They’d partnered to cover the very same event, and ended up inventing what’s now widely known as Cinemagraphs. These beautiful – yet understated – works of art, spread like wildfire throughout social media that season. The phenomena deserves a revisit.

Starting in-camera, the artists take a traditional photograph and combine a living moment into the image through the isolated animation of multiple frames. To quote supermodel Coco Rocha “it’s more than a photo but not quite a video.”

New York City based Beck and Burg named and trademarked the process “Cinemagraphs” for their cinematic quality, while maintaining at its soul the principles of traditional photography.
